Candle Care Tips

How to light a Wooden Wick

  1. Trim the Wick: Ensure the wooden wick is trimmed to about 1/8 inch for optimal burning.
  2. Use a Lighter: Light the wick with a lighter for a clean ignition.
  3. Let It Burn: Allow the candle to burn for at least 2 hours on the first use to create a full melt pool.
  4. Enjoy the Crackle: Sit back and enjoy the cozy ambiance and delightful crackling sound!

By following these steps, you’ll enhance your wooden wick candle experience!

Do's & Don'ts

Do's:

  • Do Trim the Wick: Always trim the wick to about 1/8 inch before lighting to ensure a clean burn and prevent soot.
  • Do Use a Lighter: Use a lighter instead of matches for a more effective and easier ignition.
  • Do Allow It to Melt: Let your candle burn for at least 2 hours on the first use to create an even melt pool.
  • Do Place on a Stable Surface: Ensure the candle is on a heat-resistant, stable surface away from drafts to prevent uneven burning.

Don'ts:

  • Don't Leave Unattended: Never leave a burning candle unattended; always keep an eye on it.
  • Don't Move While Lit: Avoid moving a candle while it’s lit or the wax is still liquid to prevent spills and burns.
  • Don't Burn for Too Long: Don’t burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time to prevent overheating and excessive soot.
  • Don't Ignore Safety Labels: Always read and follow the safety instructions on the bottom of our candle for safe use.

How to prevent candle tunneling

Candle tunneling occurs when the wick burns down faster than the surrounding wax, creating a tunnel in the candle. Here’s how to fix it:

  1. Use a Heat Gun or Hair Dryer: Gently heat the top layer of wax around the tunnel using a heat gun or hair dryer on low heat. This will soften the wax, allowing it to melt and fill in the tunnel.
  2. Cover with Foil: If the candle is still burning unevenly, wrap the top with aluminum foil, leaving an opening for the wick. This will trap heat and help melt the surrounding wax evenly.
  3. Create a Melt Pool: Allow the candle to burn long enough to create a full melt pool across the entire surface. Ideally, this should be about 1 hour for every inch in diameter.
  4. Trim the Wick: Always ensure the wick is trimmed to about 1/8 inch before lighting to promote an even burn in the future.
  5. Burn Correctly Next Time: Follow best practices for candle burning, such as allowing it to burn long enough on the first use and avoiding drafts.

By taking these steps, you can help fix tunneling and enhance your candle experience!
